DDA Compliant Handrails
Relinea GRP handrails offer several benefits over Steel DDA Handrails.
- 45mm GRP tubing
- Warm to touch exterior that won’t wear, even after sustained use
- Can be comfortably used all year round, irrespective of weather conditions
- Exterior can be easily wiped clean
- Tubular DDA fittings match the external diameter of the handrail
- Top rail connected to a mid-rail in a continuous unbroken loop
- Highly visible exterior contrasts with the surrounding environment
- Fixings are ‘hidden’ to eliminate catch points
- Modular GRP post design which can be altered to suit specific loads
- Can be supplied as a complete ‘DDA handrail kit’
- Easy to attach DDA fittings used to connect railing
- Flexible steel bracketry designed to suit flat or pitched surfaces
- Suitable for both internal & external applications
- Prefabricated modular GRP posts increase installation speed
- Easy to attach DDA fittings can be used
- Faster & easier to cut/drill GRP profiles compared to steel
- GRP profiles are not externally coated, the smooth, brightly coloured surface will not wear even in harsh weather environments
- ‘TouchSafe’ can be configured to suit loads ranging from 0.36kN to 1.5kN according to BS6180 – Barriers in and about buildings. Code of practice.
- Tamperproof fixings used to deter vandalism
- Highly impact resistant
- Non-conductive, perfect for railway applications
What makes a handrail DDA compliant?
- Must be between 900mm & 1100mm in height
- A lower mid-rail positioned at 600mm
- Railings should be 40 – 45mm in diameter
- Be smooth & continuous with a warm to touch feel
- Contrast with the surrounding environment
TouchSafe – GRP DDA Compliant Handrail vs Other Steel DDA Handrails
Feature | TouchSafe – DDA Compliant Handrail | Other Steel DDA Handrails |
---|---|---|
Warm to touch | Naturally warm to touch, no exterior coating needed | Needs a powder/PVC coated finish to achieve warm to touch properties |
Smooth & Continuous | Outer surface will remain smooth even after sustained use | Painted steel surfaces will wear after time |
Strength | Will return to original position after impact | Can permanently deform upon impact |
Maintenance | Handrail will not chip, peel or flake meaning zero maintenance | Finish can peel exposing metal causing rust/corrosion |
Conductivity | Non-conductive (No earthing) | Handrail will conduct electricity dependent on external finish |
Design life | Design life of over 50 years | Limited design life |
Sustainability | Naturally warm to touch, no exterior coating needed | Low life cycle costs with a design |
