Problem/Challenge
Rhino Roofing & Cladding required a robust and reliable rooftop access solution for the PepsiCo facility in Cork, which is undergoing a €127m expansion. The challenge was to design and install access structures that are not only durable and safe but also meet the specific requirements of the industrial setting. The need for safe access over cables and adherence to high-quality standards necessitated a solution that could address these challenges efficiently.
Solution
Our team designed, manufactured, and installed a comprehensive GRP rooftop access solution tailored to Rhino Roofing & Cladding’s needs. The solution included a GRP ramp with solid top decking, pedestals, and a GRP handrail fixed to the side. Additionally, a step-over with solid top decking, yellow nosing, and a GRP plate with grit top was installed for safe access over cables, clearly delineating walking routes.
The choice of GRP offered several advantages crucial for rooftop access, including ultra-lightweight strength, corrosion resistance, maintenance-free service, non-conductivity, and slip resistance. The installation process was quick and efficient, meeting the project’s timeline requirements. Importantly, the use of GRP proved to be a cost-effective alternative to traditional materials like stainless steel and other expensive alloys.
