Problem/Challenge
The client required light weight grating panels for the walkway of the new Skyline. The client required reduced steelwork support requirements, which subsequently would reduce the loadings on the roof.
Solution
Upon initially speaking with the consultant at an early stage in regards to the requirements on this project, it was soon realised that the use of RE-GRID GRP grating, due to its light weight nature (1/3rd the weight of a steel grating) would solve a number of issues. The key challenge being that the reduced weight would reduce the steelwork support requirement, and subsequently would reduce the loadings on the roof.
Furthermore, installation was considerably easier using GRP grating, and any alterations were completed easily on site.
Finally, the inherent anti-slip nature of RE-GRIDgrating (even in wet conditions)meant a much safer experience for visitors, who were brave enough already to scale the 44M high Skyline walkway.
