Problem/Challenge

Leonard Engineering won the contract to design and build a pedestrian bridge in Ballinode, County Monaghan for Monaghan County Council. The contract specified that the bridge walkway should have a non-slip finish. Seeing as Leonard Engineering were unaware of Relinea and their GRP products, they used an epoxy coating with a gritted finish. After a few years in situ the epoxy coating began to peel, exposing the bare metal and creating a slip hazard. This resulted in moisture forming between the epoxy coating and the structural steel plate. The problem worsened and rapidly spread, exposing more metal to the elements.

Solution

Leonard Engineering contacted Relinea for a solution. We recommended our 3mm thick GRP Anti-Slip Plate, which is not structurally dependent on the steel to hold it together, and offers an extremely high anti-slip surface. The GRP Anti-Slip Plate was manufactured to a bespoke size as per specification and was fabricated and ready for collection within the agreed lead time. Leonard Engineering were pleased to find that Relinea’s Anti-Slip Plate was easily installed using pop rivets and that this could also be carried out in wet weather conditions. Leonard Engineering were very satisfied with the end product and have confirmed that they would have no hesitation in using Relinea’s GRP Anti-Slip Plate in a similar application, and would highly recommend it to others acquiring a durable non-slip surface.
