Relinea GRP Grating Standards
At Relinea, we are committed to delivering products that meet and exceed industry expectations. Our GRP grating is meticulously engineered in alignment with British and European Standards. These standards are recognised globally as benchmarks for safety, performance, and quality. When you choose Relinea’s GRP grating, you are not just purchasing a product; you are investing in safety, durability, and reliability.
Our GRP Grating Fire Rating Standards:
One of the primary concerns in any industrial or commercial setting is fire safety. GRP gratings manufactured by Relinea are rigorously tested and rated to offer superior fire resistance, ensuring that safety is never compromised.
BS476 – 7: Surface Spread of Flame Test
This standard evaluates how far a flame travels over a coated surface. The classification ranges from Class 1 to Class 4, with Class 1 being the best rating, meaning it has the lowest flame spread. All of Relinea’s GRP gratings achieve a Class 1 rating, the highest safety standard in this test, demonstrating minimal flame spread and ensuring maximum protection in the event of a fire.
BS EN 13501-1: Fire Classification of Construction Products and Building Materials
This European standard is one of the most comprehensive fire classifications for building materials. GRP grating can achieve the highest fire rating possible within the material category: Bfl – s1 – d0. Here’s what this classification means:
- Bfl – While the material is classified as combustible, it offers minimal contribution to the spread of fire, enhancing overall fire safety.
- s1 – The quantity and speed of smoke emission are either absent or extremely low, which is critical for visibility and reducing inhalation risks in fire situations.
- d0 – There is no production of flaming droplets or particles, further minimising fire hazards.
For clients seeking maximum fire protection, Relinea can provide GRP grating that meets the highest rating available, Bfl – s1 – d0, upon request.
Our GRP Grating Loading and Deflection
Reliability in industrial environments is paramount, and our GRP gratings are designed to handle heavy loads while maintaining structural integrity. Compliance with the BS4592 standard, which covers flooring, stair treads, and handrails for industrial use, ensures that our products are up to the task in the most demanding environments.
General Duty and Heavy Duty Compliance
- General Duty: Our GRP grating meets the standard load requirement of 5 kN/m² UDL (Uniformly Distributed Load) with a concentrated load of 1.5 kN over a 200 mm² area, ensuring minimal deflection of no more than 10 mm or 1/200th of the span, whichever is lesser.
- Heavy Duty: For applications requiring more robustness, we offer grating that can withstand up to 7.5 kN/m² UDL under the same deflection constraints.
For guidance on choosing the correct GRP grating based on load requirements, Relinea provides detailed load tables to ensure that you have the right product for your specific needs. As a general guide, the following Re-Grid grating spans meet BS4592 standards:
- Re-Grid 2538: Suitable for spans up to 800 mm.
- Re-Grid 3838: Suitable for spans up to 1000 mm.
- Re-Grid 5050: Suitable for spans up to 1200 mm.
Our GRP Mesh Size Standards
The safety of personnel working on and around platforms is another area where our GRP gratings excel. Compliance with both BS4592 and BS EN ISO 14122 standards ensures that our grating products provide safe, secure surfaces in both industrial and machinery-access environments.
- Platforms designated for occasional use must prevent the passage of a 35 mm diameter sphere through the mesh. Relinea’s standard Re-Grid GRP grating complies with this requirement, making it ideal for many industrial applications.
- For platforms above areas where people are working, stricter standards apply, limiting the mesh opening to 20 mm.
- For platforms above areas where people are working, stricter standards apply, limiting the mesh opening to 20 mm. Relinea Mini Mesh Grating is BS4592 20mm Ball Test compliant.
Our GRP Grating Slip Resistance Standards
Safety doesn’t stop at fire ratings or load-bearing capabilities. Slip resistance is another critical factor, particularly in environments exposed to moisture, oil, other contaminants or adverse weather conditions. Relinea’s GRP gratings are tested to the BS 7976 standard, which is the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) approved method for determining slip resistance on pedestrian surfaces.
The pendulum test, used to measure the slipperiness of flooring in both dry and contaminated conditions, provides a Pendulum Test Value (PTV) that guides safety evaluations:
- In dry conditions, Relinea’s gritted flooring products consistently score above 90 PTV.
- In wet conditions, our products still achieve an impressive score of over 72 PTV, making them a reliable choice for environments where slip resistance is a top priority.
This high level of slip resistance, in both dry and wet conditions, makes our GRP gratings ideal for a wide range of industrial applications, from chemical plants to offshore platforms, ensuring worker safety is maintained in every situation.
